  • Day 1 | Thermopylae battlefield Volos and Pelion

Early morning departure to Pelion, the magical mountain of the Centaurs. These mythical creatures, half men half horse posessed the knowledge of herbs and spices with Chiron, their revered leader being a healer to Gods and men. On our way a short stop at Thermopylae, the Hot Gates, the area where the famous battle between the Greek and Persians took place. Lunch stop at the town of Volos, a lazy seaside town famous for the traditional “tsipouradika”, small places offering the greek spirit with an assortment of side dishes. We continue over the mountain with the lush vegetation and the traditional villages to our traditional guesthouse.

  • Day 2 | Explore Pelion

A full day to explore the magic mountain. Pelion is home to over 1.000 species of herbs and plants, some of them unique to the mountain. The thick forests and humidity as well as the uneven terrain with the gorges and small valleys and the sea surrounding everything create a microclimate making Pelion a small natural paradise. It is little wonder that ancient Greeks believed that the mythical centaurs lived on this mountain and most important that they knew the healing powers of all plants.

Today we will take a hike in the mountain (with mountain guide) and learn about the most important indigenous herbs. For lunch we will learn how to make our very own traditional Pelion pie and serve it with local delicacies. Afternoon time at the sea and diner at the traditional village of Damouhari, where Mamma Mia was filmed.

  • Day 3 | Meteora Rocks and Byzantine monasteries, hiking

Meteora rocks, a unique geological phenomenon, is our place of visit today. Free standing, almost vertical rocks made you wonder if the myths of ancient Greeks about Titans were true. Perched on the sides or on top of the rocks are monasteries, testaments of the ingenuity and ability of man for creation, almost as formidable as that of nature. Visit two monasteries and a chance for a short hike (or rock climbing) on the spectacular rock formations with our mountain guide. Overnight at Meteora.

  • Day 4 | Delphi

Departure for Delphi, the navel of the earth, via Arachova (180 km) to visit the archaelogical site and museum. One of the most important places of worship for all Greeks in the ancient times, well known for the prophecies of Pythia, the Oracle of Delphi. We arrive through the north slopes of mountain Parnassos, one of the largest mountain formations to visit the less known less touristic villages of Polydrosos and Amfikleia, lunch in traditional tavern. Afternoon visit at Delphi. Return to Athens in the evening.
